Has anyone tried this cutting slabs on a standing trunk?

We have a Maple that is around 42" diameter and wider where it branches out. Because of where it is, we have to chunk it down. Been wanting a chainsaw mill for a while and now with this situation thought it's time and might be slabbing it down to the ground. We have an 880 with 59" bar... does anyone have any advice on attempting this?

Thanks!

There are photos of this being done somewhere on the web and several Forum members have tried it. Good luck with lifting an 880 with a 60" bar and a mill up over your head. Also the weight of the mill/saw/bar will bog the saw down so you have to run high rakers (ie file away cutters). The consensus is that it is not a good idea.

Yeah, it would be a chore, was going to set a bit of a platform to stand and work off of and 2 of us can work together.
