Bought a twin pack of Oregon 91PX S52 chain at TSC I have been cutting wood the past month and noticed both chains stretch a lot and the edge doesn't last like the chains of the past. I got basically half a tank in before it was dull again. I have been cutting green cherry that has not been in contact with the ground.

I'm happy with my Oregon chains. Same quality and performance as with Stihl and Husky chains.
True if cutting relatively soft timbers and clean none contaminated timber.
Is bit of a stretch saying Oregon chain is up there with Stihl chain in durability when conditions ain't perfect or the timber is rock hard like we have down here.

The hard woods i am cutting doesn't compare to the trees in oz at all.

I can't complain about the Oregon Versa Cut. Seems to hold up pretty well in a variety of east coast wood. The Stihl chain's teeth feel a lil harder when hand filing....but Oregon is not far behind.

I went to my Husqvarna dealer and bought a two loops of Husqvarna made S93G he said it is much better chain than Oregon.
Guess i will see about that .
The Husqvarna X-Cut chain that came in my new 572 is definitely better than the 72LPX Oregon I bought as a spare.
No real scientific testing but I don't have to touch it up in the field as often as I have to with teg Oregon.

I used to buy a lot of oregon chain, last batch was not that great. Wouldn't hold an edge very long. Ditched it and started getting stihl chain and the x-cut chain. Oregon chain doesn't compare.
Noticed the same here…the Oregon chains made in Canada seemed to have been their best…

Hello,
I have a big problem and that is the ring that covers the rotating thing on the chainsaw does not fit anymore. Should I be "forcing it" in or what do you think?
I'd appreciate any and all help you may have,
Thank you!

You tripped the chain brake on the side cover and it needs to be released before you can put it back together.

Doesn't sound good.

The Canadian made Oregon chain seems to be as it always has been, but the chains Oregon is having made in China are total crap! Read the packaging carefully to avoid getting Shang Hai’d!

Canadian made Oregon is good. Dulls quicker than Stihl chain, but easier to file too. I didn’t know that Oregon has some chain made in china but I would avoid that completely, china makes some decent stuff but as a rule their steel is garbage.
I can attest the TSC County line chain i got is better than the Oregon i bought.

Bought a loop of Oregon 72lpx 72dl to try out, seems to cut fine so far. The slop in the links was another matter, first thing I noticed it had twice as much side play than a cheap Chinese chain I had, wasn't too impressed. Within 5 minutes of running for the first time it developed so much play it jumped the rim sprocket. By far the worst initial chain stretch of anything I've ever tried, so no more 72 lpx for me. Other Oregon chains, in particular semi chisel 3/8 low profile have worked out fine for me, but I'll stick with the Stihl 33RS for the larger saws.

I run almost exclusively Oregon chain primarily because of price and performance. I spin my own chain and go through about 100' per year. I run 3/8 .063 chisel/chisel in all three configurations- full comp for my personal firewood (oak), semi skip on 32" bars and by far my most popular, full skip for 36" and longer bars. I grind on a Silvey SDM-4 for the bits and an HDG-6 for the rakers and gullets. I've noticed no difference in the bit hardness over the years but but several of us old geezers have noticed in the last couple years that the chain doesn't seem to stretch as much as it used to. This is not due to higher quality B+C oil as we're running a lower quality (and priced) oil these days. They just seem to be manufacturing it better.
The angles on the "C" series chains have changed over the years though as I have some chains from the 80's for really long bars (50"+) that I hardly ever use anymore and the difference is quite visible even with the naked eye.
I will say this. Stihl chain bits are definitely harder than Oregon. This is noticeable even on a grinder. Occasionally when I buy a new saw I will get it with the stock Stihl chain and I can feel the difference in hardness.
In an earlier post someone mentioned that some Oregon chain is being manufactured in China. Many people are unaware of this but it is a national symbol of pride in China to make a product of the lowest quality possible and still get the people of another nation to buy it. This is particularly true for the people of the United States. I say this in jest but it would not surprise me at all if this were true. What a bunch of crap! If I continue it will have to be over in the political section of the website. LOL
If you're having issues with your Oregon chain definitely get ahold of your distributor as It has been my finding that corporate Oregon really does care. Years ago they actually sent a rep out in the woods to get our feedback and we got a bunch of freebies to boot. I've been told (but can't prove it) that most unbranded chain is Carlton. I always thought Carlton made a good product but have limited experience with it and even that was decades ago.
