Just picked up my latest gadget a 21 hayauchi pole saw. It seems very impressive. A couple threads here tarnish this product, just wondering why.

Does any one know the real world difference between the the hayauchi and the hayate?
I am also wondering what you folks have found in so far as its idiosyncrasies, if any. I have used several different cheaper brands and have been left wanting. I have a Jamason pole for my big shot but who wants to click poles together while in a tree.

Huayuchi

Mine is holding up well to hard use. Roger did not like the older, unimproved model.

We bought our Hayauchi a few months ago after having purchased the Longboy. Both VERY good quality although I prefer using the Longboy in the tree; shorter and lighter weight. But the Hayauchi from the ground, not only reaches the 21', but you can actually perform a controlled and quality cut. Silky really has the art of producing a sharp saw blade down pat. The only thing I have noticed are the cams are not strong enough to hold the pole sections by themselves; the ball locks need to be engaged also.

I bought one a few months back, and had a chance to use it while in a White Oak Deadwooding. It will reach hard to get areas that you can't limb walk.. Although while fully extended it is a hand full, and because of it's flex I found it almost impossible to make a under cut first. I believe it's not intended to use fully extended in a tree because of the flex it has.. Other than that I like mine.

happy

Im happy after trying it out today. I cleared a house drop from the ground with it. Saved me getting the ladder out or climbing. It seems worth the price of admission to me.
As mentioned the cams will not hold. the cutting action will take a little to get used when fully extended, the blade kept jumping around or twisting sideways.
I have ordered the hook fox with it, it has not arrived yet, does anyone use that.
Do you guys prefer telescoping the bottem out or top out first. It is easier to extend from the top out first but it is less stiff that way.

I've had mine for two years now and really love it. It beats the Stihl polesaw, which I had for two years before it.
Its light enough for me to use up in the tree, I prefer to extend the top first, that keeps the weight back by me, easier to control that way.
I had the second pole split by the button early on, I emailed Silky and they sent me a replacement at no charge straight away, great service...
I don't have the hook, but something to hang it on other than a spare sling would be useful.

I loved mine but my groundy left it laying and
the bottom section got run over by truck still
use it but trying to find out if you can buy sections
or if you have to buy whole new saw?

I like mine. The only thing that wasn't so good was the adhesive holding the the cap on the bottom and the rubber sleeve on the hand grip tape. We lost the bottom cap after it fell off one too many times. I made a new bottom out of half a tennis ball, a lot of hot glue and wrapped it with thin cord. I find it works well with all but the last extension out.

I lost the bottom cap the second time that I used it. The buttons must be engaged because the clamps are not made to hold the extensions in place during use. The buttons on mine are sticky and sometimes take a little bit to engage.

good feedback

thanks for the informative feedback.
My end cap on the bottom seems like it is on securely, I'll keep an eye on it however. Nothing a little hockey tape can't fix.

I contacted Silky through their spot on the sponsor forum here at AS.
I was sent just the second section, no problem, it was free as it was a manufacturing defect on mine. I should imagine you can buy the lower section individualy as well!

Thanks I contacted them and have it on the way!
I had looked through the site a while back but missed
the navigation and when he steered me saw it immediately
and felt a little stupid may have been one of those burning
eye days

I use it fully extended and dead horizontal. There are ways to stabilize it while stroking.

I doubt that they even thought we would take it into the tree. There was no factory hook for years.

I use them fully extended from time to time, I have one client who does a lot of fine pruning.

I wish someone would come up with a pole head so I can put that blade on a cheap basswood pole ;)
