Hey Folks-
I just got a Stihl 200t and in the Owner's Manual, it says that heated handles on most models is available. I saw that there is a small tab that must be turned around in the cold to prevent ice from building up in the air intake. How do I get the heated handles for better blood circulation! Do i have to buy another part?

Hi Folks-

There are a couple of options for coverting a saw to an arctic model. However, it can be expensive. Most of the Stihls require a different flywheel and a generator that goes behind the flywheel. For the models that have an internal heating plate in the carburetor, as Ryan mentioned, you'll need the different carb. For the models that just have the heating plate in front of the carb, you'll need the plate, switch, and all the wiring. If you get lucky enough to buy used parts, you can usually make the conversion for around $100.00. New parts will run $165.00-$240.00. Thanks, JJ

that's too bad

there's no way i could afford/justify even a 100.00 for heated handles. it seems like there should be a way to run hot air through the handle...you know, just re-route the exhaust and have it come through the handle then out the other side.

heat

That is exactly how the handle was heated on the 030 and early 031. A tube connected from the muffler to the handle. This could be a problem with a plastic handle.

got it
