Im just curious, but how do the heated handles work? I mean, what heats them? Is it electronic? Where does the power come from? Thanks.

Typhoon- "arctic" models have a different flywheel that has an additional set of magnets with a generator underneath of it, which generates electricity used for the separate purpose of powering heating elements in the handles and on or in the carburetor.

This adds a little bit of weight to the saw compared to a non-arctic version.

Surprisingly enough, the juice from the generator can also be used for other things, such as a small 12 volt light clamped to the handle of the saw for night time operations out on forest fires.

Didn't some saws years and years ago run the exhaust through the handlebar to keep it warm.

If this works an image of an exhaust heated handle assy of a Dolmar 120 Super should be shown below. Image is off an IPL that DolmarTechMgr kindly supplied to me for working on a neighbors 120

What's the HP loss from the electric heated handles? How many watts do they draw?
