Ryan; I have a friend who just bought a new 440 Stihl with the heated handles. He is in his fifties and just starting to feel the first limitations of arthritis. He says it really makes a difference He says it is so warm that if you arenot wearing gloves the handles are almost too hot. of couse they are switchable.
When I ordered my 357XPG I had to have heated handles makes a big difference in the winter time and I'm not close to 50 yet Still it's nice to have warm hands while your working..My next saw will have them too..
I was just wondering. If the 440 makes 4000 Watts and the generator/heaters eat a couple hundred (likely a high figure - anyone know?), that would tap into the kitty to the tune of 5% off the top. I guess when I think about it that way it's probably not going to show up unless one's running a bar length at the upper limit and using all of it.
Maybe I'm looking at it too simplistically, but the output of the motor to the chain and the generator near the flywheel(which is going around anyway, right?) seem totally unrelated.
My girlfriend got it for me for Christmas I thought I had alreadt told you that a while ago.. I know one thing this saw is a bad a$$ with heated handles to boot..Next I'm gonna buy a 346XP for a firewood saw..
Yeah I know I now own more Huskies than I do Stihls but hey thats the way life goes ya know So I see your in the market for a new MS440 huh ??Let me know how it is when you buy it
i probably won't buy one for six months or so, i have too many other things i need first like maybe a log trailer and defenatly a new truck (only because i need more pulling power)
It was 8 above here Friday morning, not sure if that's cold enough for heated handles. At what point does heated handles really need to come into the picture or is it a personal thing? I personally wear gloves and don't think I would ever need them but what the heck maybe as I get older I might. I don't think I've ever seen an Artic model for-sale here.
Grateful
