Name is Jimmy. Live in Fayetteville,NC. Started tree work around 1 year ago and have been lurking your forums for a few months. Figure its time to post and start asking questions and getting in on your picture forums!
Little info on the company I work for. We work for a local power company and just maintain there lines and clear cut for new lines. We sometimes get to go on storm work to include Katrina and the last one in fla. Had fun and learned alot!
My background has always been mechanic work (from cars to heavy equip) so yes i am starting to do alot of the maintence on the equipment (to include the saws) in which i enjoy. So there will be many questions and thoughts on saws. When i go tthis job it was mostly as a lay over waiting for a new mechanic job to open. But i really have fallin in love with trees. Its alot of fun (and work) learning and then applying!
Our equipment includes mixed bucket trucks (55-70ft.) and mud buggy (big foot, swapbuggy, puddle jumper, however) all of our saws are husqvarna (346xp,359's mostly and a few climbing saws) our parent company is also a dealer so we kinda have to use what they sell.
I now have ok expereince for a beginner in the bucket and have climbed a few times (we have some big climbs this week). Had used a chainsaw many times before this job in the army but never climbed.
The company i work for does alot of stuff i see posted as negitive (spike prunning, topping) and i'd like to change that.Atleast to the effect of what work i do! I'm not gonna lie I weigh around 245lbs but can do around 8-10 pullups. i find spike climbing not to bad other than i have to stop a few times on the way up to catch my breath. I REALLY want to learn to climb without spikes if it is that bad on the trees and also to up my skills in a job i find fun and hard to think about quitting.
Thanks for any replies and i will posting many more questions!
