Hello; I am new here. I have read posts on this site for a while but now that I just inherited a good bundle of saws ( an ms460, o19,021,034, two cs300,a cs340, red max g3100t and a few others and I already had a ms290 and an echo top handle) I figured I should register because I know I will have some questions.

I have been doing a little tree work here and there ,mostly pruning a lot of palm trees and a fair number of removals also, but my real line of work is lawn care.

I like running a saw a whole lot better.

so now to a couple of questions:

One of the saws is a red max g3100t. It feels nice and I like the body, seems like it would be great for pruning palms but it only runs with the choke mostly closed. it will idle for a bit with the choke open but will stall if I pull the trigger even slightly but with the choke mostly closed it seems to run great. so what might the problem be?

my next question is about compression. My ms460 has about 90lbs but my o21 also has about 90lbs. I have not cut with either saw but they seem to run just fine. Are those numbers right? I would have figured the ms460 would have much more than a smaller saw?

Anyway. I have loved your site from the shadows and am glad to be a member now. the price was right to. any help is greatly appreciated.

On the Redmax: Sounds like you're not getting enough fuel. Check the easy stuff first - Could be a clogged pickup filter, deteriorated fuel line, some gunk in the carb or dried up or worn out diapragms. A thorough cleaning may do wonders.

On the Stihls -90lbs is low. If you're sure your gauge is accurate then it might be time for a rebuild. Pull off the muffler and check the piston and cylinder for signs of scoring.

Good luck and welcome to the site.

thanks for the fast reply.

none of the lines are leaking on the red max and I can't see a problem with the diaphram though I'm not really sure what a problem would look like.
can that carb be rebuilt or how would you go about cleaning it. doesn't seem like there is much there?

and is 90's low for the o21 and the ms460 or just the ms460?

thanks again

Oh. I just thought of another question about checking compression if you don't mind.

I am using a guage made for something like a car, the type with a foot long hose on it, the guage does have a needle that holds the compression in til you release it. How many times should I pull the cord?

The remax sounds like there is blockage in the high speed circuit in the carb or someone has the H mixture screw turned in too far. I'm not familiar with that saw - I am assuming it has low and high speed mixture screws. Have you taken it apart and cleaned it? Start with both screws out about 1 turn.

For compression test, pull till the needle stops moving - usually 5 - 8 pulls. If you're getting those numbers with one pull, you may be fine.
