Just got some new Kleins and man I don't know why i didn't have them to start off with....I've only tried a few different spurs, Buckinghams, Bashlins ( i think) and kleins....compared to my bucks, the kleins are the cats ass! I feel like freakin spider man... the angle allows a guy to get right up close and hug the tree with my knees nice and close....its like they suck me right in... while doing that with my bucks...especially with hard and fat trees like yellow cedars... i always felt like i was ready to gaff out...not with these pricks!! Easier on my feet as well...far superior gaff...well compared to the relatively few others i've tried!

As with any task having the right equipment that also works for you makes the whole exercise a lot easier. But the are likely people here that swear by other makes. Nothing worse that paying a lot of $$$$ for new gear of any kind and then finding out it is not the cat's ass.

Well said. The funny thing is, i'll admit there are better spikes out there than my buck's, but have spent so many years on nothing but the buckinghams that i'm almost useless on any other spike! The kleins are nice but that little angle difference on the gaff throws me off every time.

I climb on kleins and I agree they stick when your up close. This is a good thing because when I get up around 80+' I tend to find myself in a little closer , then I will back out some but next thing you know I am a tree hugger again:clap:

I love my Kleins as well!! Never had anything else so maybe that disqualifies me but they are great in close or hangin out.:biggrinbounce2:

I have climbed with both, I love my Buck 3" straight shanks. Kliens are good too, but i like the straight shank more.

Kleins are the only ones that dont bash my ankle bone when i kick in.

Those things will last forever..I have a set I bought back in 93,and they are still in use today....I prefer the Buckingham's because they are much lighter, but hey...To each is own.Stick with what works for YOU.Anybody else's opinion really doesn't matter.

+3 have used both, but personally I like the bucks
kleins angle might be handier when your climbing on really small diameter, thin bark wood, but overall I'd rather have the buckinghams

another thing i didn't like about the bucks is the pin setup to replace the gaffs...mine are almosted welded in...i think i'm going to have to drill out the pins....but apparantly they've changed that....the bucks are good in the real thick bark firs...but right now we're windfirming second growth fir so we spiral prune them as far a we can go up...stem gets pretty skinny....with the kleins i feel alot more comfortable doing this...

started on the kleins myself. big fan.

as we speak i am on the bashlins. took a few trees to get used to them.

rather be in my kleins methinks. sucks they dont fit the steel inserted pads.

when i have some mo money gonna order up the wraps without the steel and give them another run.

Got Bashlins myself, I have to take a wrap around the shank with the lower strap to keep them in place, never had the opportunity to try anything else, one day maybe go for those twisted titanium ones!

You hack, you should be climbing spurless, ha, ha, ha.

Bashlin makes steel insert pads for the Kleins, and they are Great! I have them on my 1980's vintage Kleins. I had to special order them through Wesspur, took a couple weeks and cost a few extra bucks, but they are well worth the cost and trouble. The guy at Wesspur told me he planned to start carrying them for the Kleins - that was about 6 months ago. You might check with him. Dont know if it means anything, but they have a number on them. 145-AC, page 49 in the 2007 WesSpur catalog, "Ultra Stiff Wrap Pads" if it helps.

Yes, I like the offset on the Kleins, but I was thinking about going to the Bucklite for the pads until he told me he could get those pads for my Kleins. He cost himself a bigger sale, but he sure made a happier customer. I dont really remember, but I think the pads were maybe $10 or $20 more for the special order.

I'm going to order some Buckingham footplates from baileys soon i hope they will fit my kleins.
