Need to find the proper clearance for the blades...
1980 Asplundh 12" drum chipper :help:

Any input would be helpful thanks, first time changing the blades myself, and do not have the manual.

It's been a couple years so don't quote me on this, but I wanna say around 1/8"
Also, you may already know this, but don't forget to turn the anvil to a sharp side.

Update, Just read elsewhere that it's 1/32. Don't know if that's credible or not, but
I do know it's pretty thin. Also the other fellow posted and I thought I would pass it on,
use anti-sieze on the threads. I used to and it really did help on the next time you
flip or change them out.

i have an old 12" JEY. I set the blades 1/4" from the short side of the angle on the blade to the drum (I used a 1/4" allen wrench as my guage), and then the shear bar at .030 from the blades with a feeler guage. Make sure to torque the wedge bars to 90 ft lbs, recheck clearances, then hit them with a hammer and a punch and retorque a couple times. The adjusting studs should be 50 ft lbs.

Altec will ship you a manual for $20. Money well spent, as there is 6 or 7 pages on this process with pictures.
