Help ! ! ! carburetor problem

I just finished rebuilding my second Poulan Micro XXV, I can pour a little gas in the carb and it'll start right up but won't run off of the carb. I checked the reed valve, it's good to go. I took the carb apart, sprayed an entire can of carb cleaner through it and everything seems to be clear. I then replaced the diaphrams and still no luck, it's pumping fuel up to the carb but it does'nt seem to be flowing through the carb. Took it all apart again, cleaned some more and still nothing. I have the gaskets & diaphrams installed in the proper order, btw. Anybody have any idea what the problem might be?

Check the inlet screen on the fuel pump side of the carburetor, it may be clogged. Did you replace your inlet needle and lever? Did you pull the adjustment screws and clean those orifices?

I did'nt replace the inlet needle & lever, I just happened to have the gaskets and diaphrams, adjustment screws were removed and orfices cleaned, I'm pretty sure screen is clear but I'll check it again
 
The saw is old,check for a broken fuel line which is often hidden inside the fuel tank.
 
Replace the needle and fuel line and filter. Be sure all the gaskets are well seated and not leaking air.
 
The saw has a new piston & rings, crank bearings, crank seals, fuel lines, fuel filter, air filter and all gaskets. I'm 99.9% sure the problem lies in the carb, like I said it is pumping fuel to the carb but it's not getting through the carb. It'll be the weekend before I get another chance to fool with it. I appreciate your suggestions, I'll double check everything and try again. Matt
 
man those carbs are tiny. i ended up just selling the two that i had given to me. they were incomplete and with dead coils.

anything happen with your friends p-85? mines running well.

wait until you see the parts saw that i just had handed to me

it has one poulan 1800 (or similar number)side and the other side is craftsman for the body. has this great oversized handle with knuckle guard.. boy thats going to be a fun or better yet funny time.

That is correct, no fuel is getting to the cylinder. It is pumping fuel up to the inlet side of the carb, in fact, just to make sure there was'nt a problem with the fuel line from the carb to the tank I ran a fuel line from the carb into a small container of gas, poured a little gas down the carb, the saw fired up and it sucked gas right up the fuel line but it dies as soon as it runs out what I poured in the carb. So, gas is getting into the inlet side of the carb but not making it through to the metering side of the carb. All the passages seem to be clear. I'm thinking there's a problem with the metering needle not opening and letting gas through, I'm also wondering about the little outlet check valve I see in the IPL ??? I'm not quite sure what this is for. I'm pretty new to working on saws, but I was a motorcycle mechanic for 20+ years, so I have a good working knowledge of 2 cycle engines and carburetors. I've read all I can find but I have to admit these little carbs are a learning experience for me and this one really has me frustrated. Matt

Pressure test the fuel line and carb by pulling the fuel filter and pressure to about0-15 psi it sould hold pressure good, if thatgs OK pull the carb back off remove both covers turn carb upside down and pour a little gas mix in the inlet screen it should fill up, then depress the fuel inlet lever and the fuel should rapidly drain through,,,if it if its slow get the kit and replace it all, just like Jacob said,,,,, inlet screen, needle valve, back out LH screws clean good reasemble oh rod out little idle circuit with fine piano wire probably gummed up!!!!!! :bang: :bang: :bang:
 
You need to remove the inlet needle and visually verify the passage to the
fuel pump side is clear to the screen, hold it up to a light.

The P-85 runs & cuts great, we finally got the clutch problem fixed and have used it quite a bit for bucking some big logs for firewood. Matt
