Hi, I have a 038 super that I want to change the fuel filter on but I ran across a problem. The fuel line is not long enough to pull the filter out of the tank, so I haven't been able to fit the new one on because of the limited space to work with inside the tank. So does anyone knows the correct way to change the filter? My plan now is to remove the fuel line, attach the fuel filter and then pull the line back through the tank but I would like to know if that is the proper way to change it.

Thanks a ton for any help because I am stumped right now.

fuel line should pull enough so that you can hold the line with an angle needle nose and pull the filter right at the tank opening. The filter should come just enough out of the tank. The line will not extend past the tank opening. If not it sounds like the line may have been shortened? Hope this helps.

I agree, add a new line. Not only for filter change ease, but may be limiting you being able to utilize all the fuel in the tank possibly?

Dadatwins, I tried to do it with needle nose pliers but it wasn't long enough for the filter to be outsie of the tank, the line looks good, nothing cut or modded. Ok, say I get a new line(mostly likely will), would you connect the filter to it and then pull it through the tank?

Possible someone changed the line and put the wrong one in ? Line should reach just to the tank opening. Sounds like you might need a new/correct line.

Know any doctors/nurses? Try using two medical hemostats, one for the line the other for the filter.

The molded line will only go in in one direction because of the molded lip on the portion that fits in the tank opening.A new one is about 10 or so bucks at the dealer .

Ok, I successfully took out the fuel line and attached the fuel filter. The tube went back in relatively smooth and the tweezers were a big help to pull it through. I'd like to thank everyone for their advice and speedy replies.
