Hi guys, I'm trying to identify this chipper I found for a sweet deal. It "almost" looks like an A******h whisper chipper, with obvious differences like the belt cover. It's got so much old paint on it I can't see where there is or ever was a data label. It looks like it's a 6" capacity, ford 6 cyl engine, & it needs a blower fan & probably needs knife blades. This concerns me because I don't know what to look for since I don't know what brand & model it is. Here's some pics of it. If you have any knowledge of this thing, you're AWESOMEView attachment 266917View attachment 266918View attachment 266919View attachment 266920View attachment 266921!

I haven't picked it up yet. Going to look at it in an hour or so. The guy wants $1000 for it. I know that's not much for a chipper, but if I can't get the knives out or get a blower fan for it, why bother? Again, any info would help....

Oh thank God! The only thing I will tell you is not to mess around with that old chipper. But if you are still gonna get it then try posting in the equipment section where there are some old heads who might be able to help.

4" drain pipe for the blower hose, I bet that baby spits the chips if it had a cover!

And possibly the fins as well , I mean it seems to have changed or removed that plate looks bent . It's missing some parts for that blower for sure .

Haha, thanks for the commentary guys! I actually found a data plate on it today, & here's a pic of it. It's made by M-B Companies out of New Holstein, Wisconsin. They don't seem to make chippers any more, but do a lot with industrial sweepers now. The more I look at it I think a new blower wheel could be adapted to it. The bearings on the drum are silent, & the engine runs fine, & my experience as a former diesel mechanic for LOTS of years I think will help me if I need to rebuild or replace it. I think I'm going to try it out & see what it'll do, & with some new paint it won't look so junky!
Still, if anyone has any input on what blower wheel would be best adapted I'd appreciate the info!

Where are you at in Jersey? I'm 15 min east of Philly. I'd like to check that thing out in person sometime. I have an old chipper head like that one and was wondering how the blowers went on them. The one I have laying around has a massive 200-300 lb. flywheel weight on it. I also have an ol chuck and duck 12" with a 4 cylinder Ford industrial engine and it has no problems eating and blasting out up to about 10" wood.

Who knows where I might find a locally available good used exhaust manifold for the old Ford four banger?

I thought it was an old Wayne model (FMC). Bottom line is if you have to ask on some forum what some piece of junk is you should leave it alone.

About 10 years ago some moron that called himself Clarke's first choice tree care showed up at our shop pulling an old POS drum chipper with a brush painted Chevy Luv pickup. I pride myself on identifying old equipment but I'll be damned....that thing was about half fitchburg and half FMC as far as I could tell. He wanted us to put new knives in the thing.

I'm in Morris County, North Jersey. I'll post on here once I get it running, but if you show up naked I'll probably kick you into the thing! As far as manifolds, these engines are so common you could probably go to a junk yard & find one without too much hassle, but may have to do a little adapting.
