I have a little Husky 23 Compact top handle saw circa 1997. From reading this site, my understanding is it's pretty much a Husky labeled Poulan 2300 or similar model. In fact, the parts diagram for my saw looks just like the parts diagram of the Poulan 1800 that user "ackack" posted in post #26 of this thread: https://www.arboristsite.com/commun...nt-reed-valve-saw-that-was-made.133563/page-2
My dad bought this saw new around 1997. I've used it a couple times over the past 10+ years, but it's always been a struggle to get it to run. It hasn't run in a few years and I figured it was due to sitting with old fuel in it. I recently got it cleaned up and rebuilt the carburetor. There was some gummed fuel in the carb. I replaced the fuel line and filter, air filter and spark plug. I got it running but I'm having a couple issues. This is my first experience with reed valves. I noticed the reed valve doesn't sit tight against the seat, which is the underside of the plastic handle. The seat isn't flat which allows small gaps at the corners of the reed valve. Is it supposed to be flat or is this normal? It doesn't seem like the valve can flex much across it's width like that. It will flex along it's length. What made me take notice of that is after running it I removed the cover and the underside was coated with fuel. I then ran the saw with the top cover off could see fuel spraying up out of the top of the carb.
My other issue is there is a lot of oil coming out of the bar oiler port, even when the saw is not running. Just sitting there, the oil will seep out. If you tilt the saw on the bar side, oil will steadily drip out. What could be the cause of that?
Lastly, if I need to split the crankcase to investigate farther, do I just use a gasket maker/sealant when putting the 2 halves back together?
Thanks
