First off, I'm new here, so just wanted to say hi.

Next, I have a quick question regarding chippers. I'm just looking for a price guess, and if it would be worth it to do this.

I'm currently 16 years old, and I am in love with arboricultue. I work for my Dad's tree service business, and enjoy it quite a bit. Right now, we own a Morbark Model 17 (a '92 I think) with a 110 hp JD Diesel engine. This thing is a beast and we love it. Rigt now, it has around 2100hours and still running strong. But it's gotten too that point, where it could use some new paint, upgrades, etc. I know some salesman and mechanics browse this forum, so here's my questions.

1. What would a general (estimate) price be to totally repaint the machine, add new decals, upgrading some other old parts, and other general maintence stuff. We've been thinking about doing this for awhile now (espically when I take over the business after college in 4 or 5 years). I know it would be sort of expensive, but no where near the price of buying a new or used 17" capcity chipper.

Thanks for any help or advice!!

Hey there - I'll give you my input.

To get the chipper repainted - find a good local paint / body shop guy who will sandblast it and paint it for you. They can probably match the original Morbark red paint - you might spend $500 - $1,000 tops to get it repainted.

You'll want to put new decals on it - Morbark probably can sell you a decal kit....i'd guess $300 or so?

Upgrades on the parts.....cost will vary, depending on what part it is.

Good luck!
