HELP, I need help with pricing out equipt and climbing gear for the arborist / wildfire training program I am starting. I will be training 20 men and women each time. The training period is between 6 months and one year. Each successfull trainee will leave with a bag of gear of their own to keep. I will have 4 crews so I need 4 trucks and chippers. I am thinking about at least 1 hurricane chipper with a grapple the others can vary in size. I will need a permanant supplier so this can be a good opportunity for someone who sells climbing gear ect. I also need a knuckle boom log loader dump truck, and a couple portable hydraulic saw mills one circular, one bandsaw mill for resawing cants.

I'd call Sean at Sherrill and speak to him personally. Either he or someone else there can speak to you about your needs. Sherrill has the best selection of any arborist supply company I know and their service is top notch. I also know that Mark Boozer (the sales manager) has an unused Morbark 2090 chipper available heavily discounted since it is a 2 year old model.

Most of the dealers will give you a scaled discount when purchacing that much stuff.

I've looked at those chippers with the grappel on them, the grappel cost more then the rest of the chipper. Best to park the log truck by the chipper intersperce chipping and loading logs. A cable wich seems much more cost effective fop getting large peices into the chipper.

For doing big stuff all the time, morbark seems the best tool for the job, but I've been hearing good things about Woodsman lately.

With a trainging setup, you may want to contact the OEM to see if you can get several different sizes and modles on hand so that the people can work in the many types to see what works best for them. Sine you are going to be a non-profit organization, you can approach them for donation or partial donation, maybe at-cost. How i see it is the Table of Equipment items, those you keep on hand an replace with normal wear and tare, you try to get donated. Then when the graduate chooses the final product it can be made in a bulk purchace.

Saws are eaiser, you can apporach the OEM for sponsorship, since there is huge brand loyalty in wich one you start with.
