Today I got a chance to tune the carb on my Husky 2100.
I have a new air filter on order and the bar is just one we had at the shop that would fit the saw.
I have some hearing damage and have a hard time tuning carbs by ear. I shot a couple videos of the saw running.
The first one I set the carb to the factory called for settings 1 1/4 out on the low and 1 out on the high, and topped out at about 12.5k.
The second video I richened up the high to 1 1/2 turn out and the low to 1 3/4 to bring the rpms down to 10.5K which is what the service manual calls for.
The idle screw is too short and all the way in the saw idles right around 2100 rpms, and I have the correct screw on order.

I'm just looking for input on which way leaner or richer to run the saw, so I don't burn the thing up.
I'm having a tough time since this is the first time adjusting the carb on a saw with any porting done.

Most of them came fuel governed unless that valve in the carb is plugged. I just set mine so it runs good in the cut and 4 strokes strokes alittle if you let up on the dawgs. I forget what it tacs @ unloaded

yeah your governer was taken out...also looks like you have a ,qoute, "velocity stack",unqoute, ..ive never seen one that way...the manufacturer's rpm of 10,500 is for when the governer kicks in. I tuned mine once and tached it and it was right near 12,500 out of wood. i'd imagine around 12,000 is about right depending on whats done...

so what you gonna do with her? mill, logging, show and shine, or occasional play? she looks really good for her age.

The first video sounds good, adding the air filter may richen it up a little and slow it down some. The second video sounds very rich.

The second one is way crazy rich. It's hard to tell on the first setting. The first couple of revs are still way rich. The very last one started to clean out but you didn't hold it long enough to hear.

I can take some more video tomorrow, how long should I run it wide open to get a good idea? The video first I let off, because I thought I might have it too lean, and didn't want to screw the saw up.

The first vid sounded good, but i dont know if the saw was hot or just warm. If it wasent hot then ide say to fatten it up a tad but if it was, keep it..

Then again we could just trade 2100s, mine will come pre tuned!

nice saw!!

and about ruining it, dont worry they are pretty tough.

It takes a few seconds for the saw to clean out. You might try making a cut with it and leaving it WOT when you come out of the cut. That's when it really matters and I like to hear a little 4-stroking right out of the cut. It may be hard to hear on video though. It should not be a heavy 4-stroking when hot and coming out of a cut. AFter you let it idle down, rev it again so that we can hear the throttle transition.
