The chain brake wasn’t working on my 288. I figured the band may have broken. After disassembly I can’t find anything broken but now I can reassemble to verify function.

I’m stuck with where to position the upper pin on the brake flag with the internal moving parts above the brake spring.

The picture below shows the part in question. I checked the manual and it says to put flag in place and put pin through but I must be getting it in the wrong spot… any advice?

I have had trouble with those myself. I can’t be sure but it looks like you have the old metal flag model? Mine I deemed worn out. I went on e bag and just ordered an aftermarket clutch cover. It was reasonable and it works great. If you pop up some more pictures maybe I could better judge where it needs to be

You need to install the spring before you put the flag on, and I'm pretty sure that when you install the pin you just look through the hole and make sure that the pin goes on the spring (you may have to use a fine screwdriver to press the spring down through the back hole) and on the bar side of the metal hump.

I think I got it on last night. The pin was not going through the handle spring which was part of the issue.

Would like to get a whole new cover- mine is cracked, put it in the list I guess…
They’re reasonable on flea bay. I’ve been happy with mine. I like my brakes to work well. I’ve put aftermarket on the 288 and 3 different 272s. They work well
