I noticed my fire department's Univent saw(rebadged 272xp) not running good. After seeing a guy trying to cut with it something didn't seem right. We just had this saw taken to a "saw shop" for a tune up. I wanted to do it first but they sent it anyway. After gettting the saw back with a nice new carbide tipped chain it cut good but not great. I brought the saw home, pulled the cover and there it was, NO AIR FILTER. WTF? I'm not sure what kind of saw shop this guy runs but damn. I have been told that it has been without a filter for some time. Pulled the muffler and the exhaust side doesn't look bad, no deep scoring. Hooked up compression gauge, pulled 30 times, max at cold was 120psi. I'm going to say rings/hone or new p&c. Do you guys think I should send the saw off for a complete tear down? I'm trying to talk the cheif into getting a MS460R:hmm3grin2orange:
thanks

don't worry!

Don't worry, you CAN use both of them. "But..but, boss, we need 2 because there will be no waiting for a saw if someone's using the other one, they can just grab the SECOND one!" And +1 on what hard knocks said.:) :hmm3grin2orange:   :D

There an easy saw to rebuild. Buy a piston and cylinder for it and for gods sake put an air filter on it.
I had a Husky 268 rescue saw and it was a screamer, if a 272 piston and cylinder is to pricey look at a 266 or 268 piston and cylinder, you can get them for under $100 now.

Ok, call me a idiot:D I had the decomp. pushed in during the test. We now have 150psi:rockn:

LMAO... Get a new air filter and cajole the Chief into a new MS460R just for peace of mind.

I did something similar the other day... pulled the 41 over until I was real close to pitching a full-fledged, eyeballs-popping-out hissy-fit. "This @#%^&#$* thing was just running not five $%^*)(!)*@ minutes ago!!!"

Yup, the switch was off. :bang: (Karen was looking at me like I needed a visit to Dorothea Dix) "click, tug, vroom... here ya go honey, just hadta prime it up a little."

Yeah, I was thinking what would those boys on AS call me now. I think the saw may be ok, carb needs adjustment. Hopefully we can get a 460, never know when I may need to add a air vent into the side of a mobil home.:chainsaw: :chainsaw:
