Help with ID

Thick bark, sweet smell, heavy, I'm going to say Honey locust

I have Honey Locust in my piles and am pretty sure this isn't the same.

Looks like oak.

i still say white oak. oaks will always have some splits that are tougher... honey locust has a light brown almost pinkish color. and it has a sweet smell when cutting it. honey locust also has a really thin bark, here is a pic of honey locust

Seems the consensus is its White Oak. Goggled bark pics look very close. Thanks everyone.

I'm trying to get some side by side pics of black oak, white oak, and bur oak. just taking a while to upload..

yep I have b. locust also. The bark is similar but the color of the wood is off.

I've finally figured it out.

lol. I have been told many times that I over think things. part of being a perfectionist... I stand corrected about cottonwood. i split some by hand today, it split like a dream. the american elm spit the same way today. (10 degrees outside) suprised me.

It may be fine for you, it is for me, but how does your down wind neighbor feel about it? I do not react to the irritants in poison ivy but I am not alone on the planet. Some of my neighbors can become completely disabled just by being close to the stuff. How will they do once they inhale the fumes?
