This tree was a gift. All i know is that the company picks one for our climate. But it showed up looking like this. Please help

Maybe a rough transportation and time getting to you. I would not be overly concerned, get it in the ground and care for it and then monitor it. Go from there and let's see. You could also look for a local arborist to come answer your questions.

Oak tree is my favorite tree and we have it on our backyard but I don't know almost anything about proper care for it. It's pretty old though.
Doesnt look that bad for just being shipped. Plant it.
w/o changing root crown height in ground.
Doc Shigo showed under the skin, the microbiology of below ground parts much different than above ground parts.
>>follow the Natural line, by planting at same depth that tree Naturally shows to you.
>>root crown is above ground part, clearly seen under microscope.
Placed below soil level can give problems, can't breathe.
>>don't hide crown, let it shine (and breathe)!

Growing, tender root tips are so fragile/sensitive in their baby reachings out;
seeking the easiest, most permeable soil route;
have been shown to shy even away from the 'shovel glazed' part of a hole dug,
to go for a more permeable softer sections of permeability,
Shovel and then scuff sides to remove glazed smooth pressured sides.
Remove any container, relax roots for their future journeys

No heavy equipment , vehicles around site.
Try to maintain unseen micropasses in soil as they are built by processes
>>not crush them closed with tire tracks.
A hard rain can disturb some of the top layers and myceliums ;
but even then has a purpose to build soil.
Vehicle does not.

is underground destruction, by compressing these delicate things closed.
