Help with Poulan ID

I don't really like these little saws but they help me make money to play with my saws.. so I work on them. This one showed up today and it needs a clutch cover and two of the 4 bolts for the clam-shell. Can anyone help me identify which model this is and does anyone have a clutch cover?

It looks like a 2500,2600,2900 series. Check the bore.

That should get me close enough. I'm looking for a clutch cover as the current one is cracked badly and won't hold the bar adjuster screw. Since it runs, I'd rather not go into the motor if I don't have to.

Out of curiosity, If I do have to go into the bore, what size would generate what series?

Was mine at one point. Sold it a few years ago as an older gentlemen here at work wanted it one day and it was in the truck. For $35.00 it was his. Now 5 years later it looks like it's seen some "love." If he wasn't almost 80 and really want THIS saw, I'd find him another one. I'm looking for the bar cover, adjuster, and two of the bolts that mount the motor into the tank and one of the grommets for those bolts. Now the hunt for parts.
 
I have a mildly ported 46cc version of that saw (mine is a 2775) and it goes like stink. Simply drilling out the holes in the internal muffler baffle (about 10min of easy work) makes a huge difference. Also, the 33SL chain they supply on them is hopelessly slow - a loop of 20BPX makes a world of difference. They do like to throw the engine mounting screws, which can damage the oil pump if the engine gets to moving around in the case. Last, if you pinch them in a log and go gorilla on them the rear A/V spring can come loose.
 
don't know but you can measure the bore thru the exhaust port, no need to pull the cylinder off:msp_sleep:

Wood popscicle stick placed accross the bore above the piston and then bump the stick with the piston. Measure from the end to your bump mark.

Remarkably accurate plus or minus .015" using my dial calipers.
 
With 2 of the 4 engine bolts gone, you may need to re-seal the block.
This is a clamshell where the mounting bolts to hold the engine in the case are separate from the bolts that hold the engine parts together. It's the engine-to-case bolts that usually come out. It's not a half-shell like some Huskies either.

You are right, I was thinking of those little junkier ones which lose them a lot, but he should check his intake block/impulse if he has any running issues, also he should order from the 2775/2900 IPL, he needs the cover with the chainbrake........

These threads always leave me scrathing my head.

Looking for parts?? Why dont they try Poulan. The complete chainbrake cover for a 295 is $15 and the bar adjuster screw kit is less then $4.

Oh and Fish, these less junkier ones are still better to me then those little overpriced Creamsickles. :)

Mark the big issue is deciding what model it is so I can order parts. The other issue is that I don't see any OEM clutch covers available w/o a chain brake anymore. Normally on a saw I'm doing for someone else, it's all 100% new.

When right these saws are great for a homeowner. I keep a few around to keep the Husky, Stihls, and Echos company.

You need to get a cover for a 2500, 2600 or 2900 then. Probably less then $10 new.
