Here is two pics of public property and how the local "tree pros" think trees should be trimmed.

I try my best to educate customer but here is our local governement at work.

About 15 small / medium trees where trimmed on this property.

I know a fellah who maintains a hedge of euro-linden that had been hacked back around 20 years ago. It had been restored by another small operator who now teaches at the local tech. col.

Every July or so the go in and pickprune out all the new sprouts and leaving inner canopy. It is not a pollard, more like espalliar, or Japanese cloud pruning. (http://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profiles0501/cloud_pruning.asp)

There are woundwood heads at branch ends.

I know other reputable arborists who do roundovers on ornimentals. Fred B. does it every winter on crabs and pears to reduce snowloading damage from the Rocky mountain weather.

If I had to do those like that, I would have dropcrotched the bigger stems.

A Chevy dealer near me has the columnar maples butched back every 2-3 years so the flags and signs are not obscured. Pollard would have worked so much better...

I would not go that far, though I do think that more then not are there for a paycheck and an easy job. I know many city/county greenworkers that care, and wish they could do more, but have union constraints.

I know a lot of city/county guys who B(itch)&M(oan) about the slackers on the crews. Then admit that they work at a easy slow pace so that they can go right out to their production work for their "second" job as for hire tre workers.

The city ROW crews, do your quota, take a break, than do it again...

Yes I am! Mainly because everyone seems to think its o.k. to hack on municipal workers. You guys, as fellow treeguys, should be defending us IMHO.

Think of it this way...I know I can do the job on the production side, who among you naysayers could actually do the job on the administrative/municipal side?

Its easy to take potshots boys, blast away:angry2: after all being a small co owner is the easiest gig of all (been there done that).
