Hey Nick Bailey....

What's the warranty on the 046 Big Bore cylinders? This one worked great for a couple of months last fall, then developed an air leak. Didn't even look at it till this Sat. and here's what I found. The corner broke off and it's cracked all the way acrossed. Casting problem IMO.

Yeah Dennis,,, it looks like it has a large pocket there just under the Exhaust port where it either had some impurity or porosity in the casting maybe some of the mold sand let go when it was cast??????

Dont know why it cracked, but for the rest of it, did you ever turn that saw off in that 2 months?

That saw saw some wood!

You might get a quicker response if you post this in Bailey's support forum up the line a few and Shoer is right, I'd have pressure washed that thing before posting a pic of it... LOL

I posted the cylinder to show a problem. Wash it, Why? I have nothing to hide. Sure, it was used, but should of with stood 10 times that amount of use.....and not have cracked or broke the way it did.

Dennis,

Those cylinders have the same warranty as OEM. 30 Days. That being said, they should definitely not fail like that. We will want to take a look at that one for sure. I will have Gregg contact you so we can iron this out.

Dennis I think they were just pickin @ ya,,, Sounds like Nick is gonna look into it for ya which is awesome,,,BTW... As I said before you got you panties in a wad,,, the large pocket under the exhaust port looks like a typical sand cast flaw... in fact just like some flaws I inspected in some sand cast pump casings a few weeks back..... I will try to find the photos and upload them you will be amazed at the similarity :notrolls2: :notrolls2: :notrolls2:

I would think that Baileys response was great and pretty timely,,,,FTM

Why would you waste time washing a busted part???? most evaluators want what they are looking @ as found or as close to the actual as found condition as it is related to the failure!!!! :bang: :bang: :bang: to wash it may appear as though someone had something to hide????

Sorry Dennis, I didn't mean to suggest that you had something to hide. I just thought it would look better, and the defect may show up better if clean too.

If that happens on an OEM Stihl, they warranty it even if it's two years old... Had one recently like that. The stihl failure was likely caused by loose cylinder bolts, but...

Where do you get the 30 days for OEM from? We've always been told 90 or 1 year on parts (same as the saw).

Greg did call me this morning and said they would warranty the cylinder.

Thanks for answering Nick and thanks for backing your products.
