this works slick! i can winch right up without rolling slides over the roller and length is unlimited. can also put full power to the winch without fear of breaking chokers.
if i find one that this won't go around, i don't think she will pull it any way lol.
the ferrule slipped about 1/4", i don't think it will slip any more.
100_1582.JPG thanks northy, i owe ya one bro.

Purty slick! Might have to steal that one! I cut a 4' Hackberry for my current LO today, next to his house and outbuildings. Got three logs outta it. That would have worked alot better than putting two chokers together.
exactly why i tried this. 3/4 cable, a bantam choker bell and the grey wedge ferrule is what i used. bantam bell was kinda hard to find.........

Huh that's crazy. Our deere dealer carries it. Where are you at btw?

I never cared for those cable chokers. If we get a tree to big for the 12 foot log chain we'll just use two sliders ....one on each end of the chain

I'm actually in central pa. We stray to Hagerstown when we get the rite piece of timber. We sell our veneer to pat baython from Atlantic veneer.

we sold a load to crown once......they picky..........we got good money for what they took but had 5 loads of #2 to move after they picked. in the long run, i was just as well off with my regular buyer. we send tree length to him and hardly ever have any saw logs.
the whole tree makes some kinda grade..........not as impressive as a whole load of butt logs but the average for the whole woods comes out better. hey i got poplar price for a soft maple the other day, idk if the market got better or if it was just a nice one. it was snow white with no heart. we never got grade prices for maple before........

it was the maple in the third pic of this thread

Soft maple has been pretty strong here for about 6 months. But hard maple is slowly slipping. But thankfully white oak and poplar are holding strong. Hell they were buying chestnut oak veneer this time last winter. Sold some nice big hickory logs that I thought were just a nice big saw logs to the mill we deal with .....they bought them for "rustic" veneer. Whatever that is.....paid a $1.00 a board foot. That's good for hickory around here.

hickory been at poplar price for a while here......some times better. i have even sold sweet gum and tupelo veneer. was a first for soft maple though...........maybe i should have tried it before now lol.
if they come out with beech veneer, we got it made LOL.
