Yesterday I got a call from a customer that I did work for said his neighbor had a tree leaning against house and wanted me to look at it.I sent one of my guys to look at becauase I was at the fire house. It was a 60ft red oak against the house with 6 2ft diameter latteral branches over house with the tree in the center of a deck.We stopped out there first thing in the morning pulled up and there is a guy in a pick up truck putting his harness and spikes back in the truck.stopped doing the job.He cut all the balancing weight off the tree away from the house. The tree was now on top of the house putting all kinds of weight on the ridge line and side of house plus it didnt help that we had 35mph winds.I called my customer and told him he better have good homeowners insurance because if the wind keeps up its on his house and the nieghbors.I called the homeowner with the tree I asked him if the tree guy had insurance he didnt think so I told him well you are going to need some now.I will try to get some pics up of the tree and house.Thats right hire a hack and save MONEY.It will be interesting to see if I get a call to clean up the mess.

man what was he thinking?

A lot of times it is not to hard to get something off a roof with little more than some rudimentry rigging or some well placed cuts. The other times you need a crane or something. My guess is that this guy was thinking that this was one of those times a crane was not needed and was wrong OR he wasn't thinking at all.
I think it is the posters duty to find out who the unkown climber was and get him on here so we can ask him.
Anyway, its always a joy and quite a thrill to be so close to the action and seeing this drama unfold. I wonder if the house has fallen yet and be sure to film it when it does. I do so love drama, wish i was there, I would stop all my work to sit and watch. Let us know the outcome, maybe if you drive by real fast it will knock the rest of the house down, try it and see.

Were you able to strike a conversation with this climber guy? What did he say?

I can only wonder who he could be calling. Maybe it was the guy who told him to do what he did. Now that would be funny" Yeah I did just like you said and now its worse, I will see you later, its beer night."
Sounds like you had a rough day playing in the street.

Next time you have a problem with traffic bypassing the cones, set a pile of brush & logs in the road behind the cones.

Stops 'em every time.

I use them stop slow signs and cones if they run my stop sign
they get to pay a fat ticket, the work zone tickets double ya know
and it slows them down for a while.

I don't know about your part of the country, but around here you need a permit to close a road, and all the signs must conform to the rules, detour must be marked, etc, etc, etc. Getting a cop to write a ticket would be tough to find, unless you were paying him to guard the passage.

Side streets: we just block 'em with cones and move fast. Not enough cones, dumb drivers that force their way in: leave some logs/brush in the road. If a cop comes by, say Oops! We're working on that right now! [The "oops" method is untested. So far, we have never been told not to block the street]
