Fellow arborsitsite member Rich Hoffman recently made me a custom muffler for my Grefferdized 260. Previously it was sporting a Walker's muffler of the two pipe style. The problem with this style muffler IMO is its way loud when making your back cut and the sizeing of the tubes is too much for best performance. To alleviate this problem Rich welded me up a single pipe version that dumps out above the sprocket cover. I believe the pipe is around 5/8". The saw now is quiter as well as picking up about 5%(swag) in cut speed. The motor is also much happier runing on one pipe. It comes on the pipe stronger/sooner now and doesnt fall flat after sustained cutting like it used to.
I should also add that the turn around was fast and that the welding was top notch, which is good considering the problems I have had with the previous brazed design
I will post some pics tommorow of the muffler and my fleet of clubs,NW Onatrio division.

Where are the pics, Ben? I had Walkers do muffler mod.(372XP) The only problem I had was the paint sticking to the brazing. It did increase the Db's a bit but that doesnt bother me.
What do you mean when you say it would fall flat after sustained cutting? Thanks.

I know that last pic shows a Josered 2045 turbo and a stihl, plus another saw, but I cant figure out what model the Jonsered with the square port muffler is. Please tell me what model that Jred is.

Here is the Bwalker fleet of clubs, NW Ontario division.
From right Stihl ms260G, Stihl 039, Jonsered 71e, Jons top handle, and a Jonsered(aka Poulan)2045. All of these saws will be spun off after this season except the 260 and the 2045. The 2045 gets the pee beat out of it because it rides around in a boat all season. The other two Jonsereds have found a good home and the 039 is going to be traded in on a 260 arctic or a 361.

Ben I just got back from the big shoot out and opened my mail and Dan sent me my 026 muffler. Dan put 2 side pipes on it and looks like dual headers rednecks put on there chevy trucks. I will post some picks of Dan's you'll be impressed.

i hear ya there. but hey if you did'nt work so much you would'nt be able to afford such a nice place. just think some day you'll be able to retire and really enjoy it:D

I don't like pipes, they're too loud...Both my PP 7900 and ehp357 with ports only seem quieter. At least side firing ones arent too bad at contacting the wood, catching it on fire, causing back pressure, and hot hands.

Are you sure that is only a 5/8th port, Ben? And did Rich close up the stock port? I ask, cause my 335's run great with a 5/8 port plus the tiny stock opening, and my 346 and Shinny 488 do great with 2 0.5 inch ports.

Check out my latest ebay theft, : one is 52 cc, the other 71, and they look to be reaonbably low hour saws for their age! Will reserve judgment till I get and run them.

Hey Roger,

I am surprised you are talking to me after my crane comment on the Climbing forum. :D

The pipe I used for Ben's 260 muffler is actually 3/4" O.D. I put a 45 degree cut on it and crimped it in a vise to get it to fit the small area on the side of the muffler. I then sized the hole to fit the pipe and mig welded it in. Ben sent me the jug side of the muffler. I don't know what he did to the front half.

Rahrah guy,
You da man..just not the craneman.. I new it looked bigger than 5/8th. Hey, how bout doing a 335 muffler for wiley_p, and also the one on the saw that you're gonna send me...Use the pics from my old thread for a guide....but maybe you could figure out a better place for the pipe.

I can send ya a 335 muffler.....
