The racks that hold the logs like on EHP video clips. Do you guys build your own or are their some companies that sell them? Thanks.

I have not seen anyone marketing them, but I have not looked.

Not realy high tech, any back yard welder would be able to put one together.

I welded one up last winter from 15$-20$ of scrap metal, an 8x2 inch chunk of chanel iron 6 feet long and 4 legs. Maybe an hour of fitting and welding.

I think my stand is a bit high though at 24 inches to the bottom of the wood, but is fine for wood 12" and less.

Is there and official height?

The stand is key for learning to cut and to gauge saw and chain tuning. Also can use the stand as a sawhorse for cutting lumber, plywood, metal...

I Should paint it though!

I have now made 3. The first was too high. Second was built like a tank. #rd is a bit lighter but MUCH easier to transport. Here's a pic of #2 The "one up, one down" arraingement of the angle iron allows for rounds as well as cants to be used. I built all 3 with new steel, I don't have the patience to search for scraps. What is not shown in the picture is the tie down points for ratchet straps.

Ed's and sadanmands stands are nice, more fancy, but as long as your getting the wood held firmly, what more do you need. :)

metal log hold down racks

Thanks for the pictures and replys. I figured that the members here made their own. My brother is a pipe fitter he could weld something nice up for me after seeing these pictures, or I could just do it at work. Thanks for the pictures.
