Hi all, long time lurker, finally took the plunge and joined.

Wondering what the consensus is on the Makita 4300 Home Depot rentals that get cycled out. I found a bunch of threads with crazy deals that people got on the Makita 6400s, but haven't found anything like that around here. I bought a Makita 6421 new, and love it, but was looking for a backup that's lighter and smaller. I'm seeing a ton of the used 4300s for $193 at various Home Depots. I would have to hope they haven't been abused, but could always rehab it. It's not as foolproof as getting a 6421 though as you can easily throw a big bore kit and have a sweet saw if the rental has been mistreated. Is it worth this price point?

I recently bought a 6421 HD rental saw and it came with a complete fresh tune up, including chain. Also pushed 200 psi on a cold comp test. Great saw for $322, which also included chaps and hard hat. For $193 the 4300 seems like a deal. Few in my area for sale too. Been thinking about buying one.

Very nice. There was 1 6421 posted somewhat near me at the beginning of the month, but it went quick. These have stuck around. I wonder if the price will drop if they make it to March 1st.

When I picked up the 6421, I called the day after it was posted and had them set it aside. The worker at the rental shop said they go fast but the smaller saws take a little longer to sell. The two near me have been up for a month now. Any less would be a smoking deal. Can't imagine they would sell a beat up saw, definitely couldn't be renting crappy saws.

I just talked to the guy in the rental Dept who said these are going to drop "by half" each month until they sell. I'm going to be there at 6 tomorrow if it drops under $100
