Lets see those tools everyone has built to help along with your firewood. I'm not talking about splitters either. I was just looking at some homebuilt log carriers for behind 4-wheelers and it got me thinking. I've been playing with the idea of making a removeable winch system for the back of my Jeep using a 3-4000lbs winch that well fit into my reciever.

common wadda got!!

Like this one, for instance? The winch is bolted to a T-beam I made using 3/4" oak that spans the truck racks. I tie the big log securely to the winch hook and drag it up the rail ramps that I also made with 3/4" oak. The rail ramps are tied securely to the truck's bumper underneath the tailgate:

Does it work? Well take a look at this 32" dia. log that I dragged onto my Ford Ranger in June:

I rest my case. :chainsaw:

i use a boat hand winch on my trailer to pull those extra heavy logs up when i don't have the help.

Mounting a winch on a receiver is a good idea. I have a Jeep too, and was thinking of getting a bigger winch and making a mount for a 2" receiver just for the versitility. You could put a mouting point on the front for wheelin' or wood removal, move it to the back, take it off and put it on the pickup, etc. The only thing would be you'd have to wire some beefy cables to the back of your rig b/c the winch would draw a lot of juice under load.

One other thing, when I built my trailer I added a receiver mount onto the front rail for an anchor point, and so I could run a winch (once I pony up the cash for a good one) on that too, and since I was thinking of the 2" setup, I could move it from the Jeep to the truck to the tractor to the trailer for winching up a vehicle onto it or logs up or anything else.
