Had to split the case on my 150. The fuel tank is part of the crancase and got separated when I split the case. looks like homelite locktited all the screws used to hold the case together. The fuel tank does not have a gasket between the 2 crankcase halves. It looks like they used a greg material that dries hard almost like jb weld. it has an epoxy smell to it.
What should I use to reassemble the 2 halves and keep the fuel tank from leaking? Thanks Steve

Hi Steve,
The fuel tank/handle assembly isn't part of the crankcase on a 150 and should NEVER be split! The engine assembly with oil tank at the front end slides inside of the handle/tank assembly and is held on by 4 bolts and attached to the carb by 2 more. The oil tank is attached on the front and uses a gasket for sealing. With this said, I've acquired a 150 in the past that had the fuel tank split previously and was leaking and to fix it I used Permatex Aviation gasket sealant. It states that its resistant to oil and gas and so far has worked well. I first ensured a true flat surface on both faces of the tank by sanding on a flat surface with some 400 grit emory (paper on the flat surface with grit facing up, moved the the tank in circular motion on the paper). Clean the surfaces of the tank well after sanding with some acetone. I would imagine any sealant that claims to be fuel and oil resistant should work.

Good luck,
Dan

Dad did the same thing to mine...that's how I got it. I used Yamabond (from any Yamaha motorcycle dealer), and it worked great.

Yamabond...did a Dayton tank which was the same saw with a different label. Still going with no leaks and that was 10 years ago......no leaks yet
