Guess what guys ?? Remember the Homie 150 I got on ebay that was hard starting, "But like new" and otherwise in great shape.

Well, I got it. Pulled the muffler- before i got it off, I could tell it was run lean. Got the muffler off: Scored cyl/piston.

Its not major, still has compression (80 psi) compared to the 130 my other one has.

I contacted the seller asking for a refund & he says that he is a mechanic & used to race two strokes & that there is nothing wrong with it.

Must be a sorry A$$ mechanic wanna bee then, or just a complete dishonest idiot.

I will post my emails to him & his replies in the future. It will probably get "Ugly" before I get my money back.

What do you all think ?? Live & learn

The "mechanic" knows it will start and run, so on EBAY that means primo condition. He might get $15 (value) for it in trade on a new saw, or about the same selling locally, and he knows it.

The bad part is if he'll eventually take it back, you'll still take it in the shorts shipping it both ways, and he'll leave a snotty comment in your feedback.

I think of EBAY like going to the casino...don't expect to come out ahead on a regular basis. I have dealt with a few guys who do seem to be on the up and up, very honest, etc., but even folks who aren't all that straight up get good comments because buyers don't want to get bad ones back.

It's a racket, and EBAY is the winner.

The only field I've ever had trouble with on eBay is chainsaws. Just too easy to make a quick, dishonest buck for crooks to ignore. I bet they figure that 9 out of 10 times the buyer is a homeowner who won't know one way or the other. Also can be the other way around where the seller doesn't have a clue.

Bought a Pioneer that had heavy wear and low compression, bought an 011AVEQ that had a scored cylinder ("starts on the first pull!"), and then bought the "great" (ex-rental) 026 that looked like it had been used with straight gas in sand, dirt, perhaps underwater, then dragged behind a truck for a year or so. The only saw I've bought that was undamaged was one that hadn't been tested (111S).

Buyer beware. There are a lot of good deals on saws to be found on eBay, but there's also a danger.

I bought my 670 from dozerdan on ebay. It has been an excellent saw. I dont know what kind of feedback this loser had but i knew Dan was a straight shooter because I had seen his auctions for months and could tell he only sold items that were running and in good shape.
I bought a Homelite EZ that I knew didnt run, but the guy didnt tell me the carburetor was in about 400 pieces:angry:

I also bought a Poulan XXV for $11 that needed two screws and a starter pawl, and it runs great

Definitely a crap shoot.

Did you pay with PayPal? You can dispute you payment and will win if the persons discription was inaccurate and you can support it with emails. GoodLuck

I bought an 009 that "needs muffler" , seller didn't mention that crankcase was busted! I e-mailed him and we agreed on a refund of 1/2 purchase price and I kept the saw, I have two other 009s and there were enough good parts to make this a deal...like a fully adjustable carb and new clutch/sprocket. This is the closest I've come to getting burned on E-bay.

I agree that it's a crapshoot. Got lucky on the first couple of deals, just happened to buy from honest people. Bought another "runs good" that did run but had fallen out of a tree or truck and had lot of broken plastic. After that I learned to check feedback and ask a lot of questions.

I just sold a saw to a guy last week. He clicked the buy it now before asking questions. He just had to have the saw as quick as possible. He wanted to fly into a town 35 miles away and have me deliver it to the airport. I could not take the time out of my schedule to meet him. I agreed to ship it asap. I sent it out before payment arrived. (it arrived that afternoon). Once he got it he said he did not like it. He said the it was scratched, dirty, and the rim was shot. It was dirty because I tested it one last time before shipping. It was scratched because it was used. The rim may be bad and I missed that. That is my mistake and I will ship him a new one for free. I offered to send him the rim or refund his money plus 50% of shipping. I got no response. The one thing I will not do is refund part of his money and let him keep the saw. I believe the guy is a decent guy but I feel I have been more than courteous also.
