I have a Homelite 340 with bad piston & cylinder. I believe that this saw is a Solo 654. Is this true. Would like to know if this is a good enough saw to make a winter project out of and if anyone thinks that I will be able to find the parts I will need? Thanks.

Also I never saw the report back on a Shindaiwa 488 that was being modified, just wondering about how it turned out.

Hello, You are correct in thinking that your Homey 340 is a Solo 654. I don't know much about the quality. Even if it was a "Pro" quality saw... I don't think you could get a piston and jug for under $200. Your already half the cost of a new 651Pro. IMHO, pass on that project unless you can find a good deal on parts. There is a Solo distrib. in TX. Give them a ring for price info.

Piston and jug for the 654, which only seem to be available direct from Solo is over $200. If you have the saw apart you already know that it is a saw that has an integral crankcase and cylinder, if you don`t already have it apart, let me tell you what a chore it is to get apart, not like poping the jug off of many other saws. Rupedoggy may be able to help you out if you are determined to proceed. Russ

True, I can help. Got a neat 654 that is missing a carburetor, filter and cover. Looks like you could put your Homie stuff on it and go to cutting! Spend that $200 with me and sell what you have left on fleabay. Should get a good saw and spare parts too if you want to just keep it. Mike
