I have just finished restoring an older (much older) Super XL. The 20" original Homelite bar I have seems to have alot of play up and down. Do I need the spring clip (part #64448) or should I get another bar? The studs are 5/16" and I thought they were 3/8" on these saws, maybe its really old. I can furnish UT number later. Anyone have these clips or recommend the correct bar?
Thanks.

S-clip

It is easy enough to make the "S" clip that takes up the play in the slot. Just find or make a strip of thickness (3/8 - 5/16)/2 = (1/16)/2 = .03125" and width equal to or just less than the bar thickness, and just bend it around the studs (after installing the inner guide plate). If your strip is a little too thick, just file off enough at top and bottom to permit bar to pass over. This will give you a good fit, with minimum play.

Thanks Galde,
That did the trick. I did check a newer XL that I have and the bar studs are 3/8" as opposed to the 5/16" on this saw so I was not imagining it.
