Hi Folks,

I've seen many questions as to what paint to use to restore old Homelite saws. Well, I used Duplicolor paint and I bought it at Autozone.

The choice I made was suggested by another Arb Site guy and it worked out well.

The Duplicolor paint I used is an enamel and it worked great. I used Ford Red DE1605 and Gloss Black DE 1613 and Clear DA 1692.

I'm no pro painter by any means and this paint applied well and didn't run real bad and dried really fast. I applied a first thin coat and then a second medium coat and it didn't try to run and it was easier than I thought it would be. I'll try and put some pix up but we'll see how that goes.

Take care and Happy Holidays.

The Dupli Color Light Blue works pretty good on the old blue Homies also.

Blue Homies! My Grandpa had a blue homie. Good old saw and pristine too. When He died my cousin got it. Probably hasn't been fired up since then.

Pics?

blue homie

I want an old blue homelite that needs work, I have a spare red one that I would like to convert.

Ford red is another of those that's close but not quiet. Still lacks that slight orange-ness. Looks nice if you do an entire saw, but for touch-up or only painting certain parts, its a noticably different shade.

Here is a post that would have been handy a month ago!:)

Surely we need some pictures.
Here's an old blue XL12 that I restored using the Light Blue Dupli Color from Autozone. It was not a perfect match, but not bad. When I looked at the pictures I posted The flash on my camera makes the blue look much lighter than what it is. It's a darker blue than what these picts. show.

Nice job! My brother in law has a old blue Super XL auto in nice shape that I plan on getting from him.

It's only a matter of time till he screws it up, and HE can't fix it.

Patience is a virtue they say.

Homelite 650 restored with above listed paint

Check out the picture of the Homie 650 I restored. Its actually my Buddy's saw. Enjoy ;).

I did use the paint I mentioned in the first post. The decals obtained from Sugar Creek Supply.

Hey, that looks great.

Hard to tell in that small picture, but that shade of red looks pretty good.

I have recorded those paint codes down in case I get another Homelite to do, which I doubt, but you never know.

Now if I could find some Poulan lime green, I see another project coming on..

Very nice looking 650 TG. I agree the Ford red 1605 is about as close as you can get off the shelf to the "new" Homelite red. Here's a couple pics showing the slight difference I was talking about. Again, its close, but just not quite the same. It ends up being just a little darker, but it is closer than the MF red.

may be restoring a bunch of Homelite blues here soon where do i pick up that paint from ????
Autozone sells the Dulpicolor brand of paint. Autozone is a large nation wide chain of auto parts stores. Most any large city will have one, or five. They usually have a large assortment of spray paint and painting supplies.

Ok, so I have an old complete Homelite 719 that I inherited from my father in law that passed year before last and am wanting to restore it and am looking for the green and the orange that's on it. I would use the red y'all are talking about, but this one is definitely orange and not red. Any ideas on finding that orange and green, or am I going to have to play it by ear?

Let me add my 2 cents worth. Have a few Super XLAO's. I use this spray paint I got from Auto Zone---Its VHT Engine Enamel-# SP 119-Chevy Orange-Red. Actually I just got done touching up a saw about an hour ago and you really have to look very hard to see any color variation. btw it's high temp, chemical resistant also. I'm very happy with the results I've gotten. Good luck guys!!
