I have been a big fan of SXLs for years but never had serious problems with one. Now the one my dad started with, and my favorite of three, Ol Blue, finally let go of the Bar studs that had been wobbling for years.
I found another side plate complete with oil pump lines and crankshaft for 10$ but I am having difficulty figuring how to disassemble the engine. I started with the new side plate and figured out how to remove the crank shaft from it, but it is not in a case.
Do I have to completely disassemble the engine to do this? ie. remove the crank?
I have no experience with small engines but I'm careful and competent with tools as well as a history of working on many things I never saw before so with a bit of help and advise I think I can get through this. I have lurked this list and am amazed at the amount of knowledge available here. A general procedure would be best for me.
TIA
