I have a homelite XL-12 #10445B that I can spray a little starting fluid in and it will crank and run for a few seconds. I thought it might have a cloged fuel filter (and it may) but when I was taking the filter out I saw that the fuel line was broken where it goes into the grommet at the tank. I removed the line from the carb and tried to pull the line out of the grommet but it broke.
Do I remove the grommet from the tank and get the line section out of it?
Try to get the line out with the grommet in place?
Replace the grommet?
Can I get a fuel line , filter and grommet for this saw at any saw shop?
I started to just pull the grommet out but if this part has not been made in 20 years I might need to save it. I have been reading this site for a few weeks now tring to get some tips on working on my saws, but decided to just join and ask. At this time only one of my 4 saws is running. The 3.7 Craftsman/roper is running the Super Mini SL, XL-12 and plastic Remmington 500 are not.
Thanks

The fuel line that you are looking for can be bought in after market parts. The price I belive is about 10 to 12 dollars. It is best to replace it all to insure that the tank seals properly. If you can not find this part let me know and I can get you one.

Or you can go to your local saw shop and get some new Tygon fuel line and install it through the grommet.

Cut the line on one end to about a 20* angle so it has a long tail on one side, stick it through the grommet from the tank side and grab it with pliers and pull.

Make sure to put some fuel or oil on the line and grommet before trying to install it.

Easy Peasy Japaneesy, and it dont cost $10!

Btw, starting fluid dosent have any lubricants and will damage your saw.

I replaced the fuel line and filter on my XL-12 yesterday. The grommet had dried out over time and shrank, it pinched the new fuel line off. I drilled the grommet out a little, flushed the shavings out of the tank and it went together with no leaks. HTH

I went by the Stihl shop this afternoon after work and got a piece of fuel line for $1. The man could not find a filter the right size but blew through mine and said it should be OK. Got home and cut a sharp angle on the line like recomended. After I got it all assembled it cranked up after a few pulls with out even priming it. Thanks for the help. Two now running , two to go.
