Homelite xl-12 gas leak problems???

Hit there,

I'm a newcomer to the site. I tried a search but I couldnt solve my problem so i thought I would post a question.


My father has given me his Old Homelite XL-12 chainsaw. I have got it running with no problems and recently picked up a new bar ans chain for it and it seems to be runing very well for a 35 year old saw.

I have one problem though. When I tip the saw in any direction other than the way it would sit while on the shelf I get fuel leaking out around the gas line from the fuel tank. Its especially bad when the saw it tipped bar up. I'm assuming that the old seals have dried up and crumbled.

Would a new fitted fuel line solve this problem or is thier another part I should be looking for.

is the fuel tank leaking or is it only the line. if the tank seam is leaking you will have to seperate the halves and rebond if it is the line their was two types used the molded line or the std. line does it have a pick up filter hanging on the intank fuel line or is it old enough to have a large felt wick inside the tank?

if you need the rubber grommets that seal around the line between the tank & carb box, PM me I have about 100 of each size.

Its leaking around where the fuel line goes into the tank. Its not leaking along the seam.

I dont see a wick in the tank, I think it has a filter at the end of the line.
