This popped up for sale close to me. Can anyone tell me what they’re worth? I can’t find much info on it. It needs the recoil spring put back together and it hasn’t run in 2-3 years. It has a 24” bar and chain on it. Thanks!

I dunno Mark, what's that brass screw thing by the rear handle for? A pic of the clutch side would certainly help, but I think there's still a chance that the gear drive bits are still there.

Just a parts Super XL type really. You have the gear drive tag but the transmission is gone and replaced with a standard clutch cover. Is there a drum installed on the crank? It could still be a usable saw just not valuable. This is the XL gear drive.

I did in fact go and buy it. The guy wanted $25 I figured I could at least make that back in parts. I’ve never had a gear drive saw. What should I be looking for? I can send more pictures later

If you ever entertain the thought of selling it, I would be very interested. I do not yet have an XLAO-GD, but have a few of the XL and Super XL-15 gear drive saws (manual oilers).

I can’t say I have ever seen the planetary clutch cover sell on its own…I would suspect one would cost a few hundred bucks.

Well, based on the above thread the guys are saying the transmission is gone. I haven’t taken a look into it much yet. Would you still be interested if it’s no longer gear drive?

I would, since I have a few of the gear drive saws that are complete here. The gear drive is a pretty basic planetary gear set over the clutch, but they take gear oil and it is beleived that most were neglected and wore out, or, since converting to direct drive was so simple, some may have been set aside when a user wanted to use the higher blade RPM.

I just restored an XL-500 and had color matches made in the red, white and green. Those are the same colors of the XLAO-GD, and yours would be a great canidate for me to restore using one of my gear drive clutches.

I just sent you a private message.
