Homelite XL2

I have a homelite XL2 and I have rebuilt it and it runs great, BUT I have a small problem. I believe that there was a small rubber peace in the top of the plastic gas tank. Well mine is gone/lost. Can I just plug that hole or is it a breather type thing, if so what can I replace it with.

That piece is a "duckbill" valve, it allows air into the tank to replace the fuel the engine uses. Should be fairly easy to get.
