I had spoken with my mother a few weeks ago and she told me a funny story.

My mother works for IBM, she works with another woman, Jodi. Jodi and her husband are building a house out in CT. They bought the land and had the house prefabbed and brought in by train / truck. Well Jodi's husband went about 2 weeks ago is my guess to the house to cut down a tree that had to go. According to what my mother says, the tree was tall and didn't have any foliage until pretty far up. Well Jodi's husband went, and put 1 cut in the tree and then put a rope up there. He tried to pull it over the way he wanted it to go, but the tree went the wrong way.. It went across the lawn, across the road, and took out some telephone lines. Well the state police were called and the utility companies too I guess.

Just goes to show that if you don't know what you are doing with trees to stay away and hire a professional.

Tree that reminds me of an interesting Scenario of a couple of months ago i was called to give an estimate for removing 2 rather large(2' Diameter)
Pines from a rather Wealthy Subdivision. one was in each corner of the backyard around the back yard was a brick fence to the backside of the fence was the main transformer line and a state
highway. If dropped from stump either would take
Something out i.e. House Neighbors house Brick wall for sure! I gave the guy a Rather good price
for both he looked at me and replied "I thought tree work was cheap" I quoted the 2 trees for 800.00 I advised him of the risks ect he informed me he would remove the trees! 2 weeks later I receive a call 8:30 Pm Sunday nite "I need you to come Here Now!!!!" i get there 9:05 I see Neighbors pool House Demolished Top of pine tree
in the bottom of the pool and 25' Brick wall
Destroyed! Well lets just say that He payed dearly
for the removal out of the pool! and it looked like from the impact force that the pool basin
had been cracked.I just wonder what the total property damage ended up being.

Actually I just remembered another story. The lawn mower shop that I am associated with, it's a big family business. Well one of the brother-in-laws had a tree that needed to come down, from what I was told it was a really easy drop, you just had to watch out for this shed that was there, but you still wouldn't have needed ropes. The shop people were gonna send somebody up to make the cut and get it down to the ground safely. Well the brother-in-law decided that he would do it himself, so he went out there with a Husky chain saw and dropped the thing right on top of half the shed taking out a corner and a door.

BTW- the tree was about 2' in diameter give or take.

The guys from the shop already had somebody who was supposed to go up there to cut the tree down, then they told him after the shed got wrecked that he was no longer needed. I had to go up there one day to grind the stump and some others, it really was an easy drop.

Some people
