I'm way ahead of Ray (he's the teamster I am cutting with right now) so I took my camera and got a few pics. Here's the team. Percheron gelding's. They are brothers a little more than a year apart.

That is awesome ! -out west here, i have cut for two horse loggers. It was real enjoyable. 5000-7000bf per day when everything went well. Except for the hand pilling that went on when i got to far ahead.

Thanks for posting. Love photos of the horses. Is the sulky log skidder home-made? I've never seen log grabs on a chain like that. I can see how they could have some advantage over the tongs I use. I'll have to make a pair.

Glad you liked it. Yeah, the cart is home made. Odds and ends, some farm implement wheels (I believe those are from a corn picker) and you have a cart.

I've heard it is amazing what they can pull.

Tomorrow my buddy and I are cutting. A week ago he was cutting/felling for the amish who were horse logging. They get around good on the steep hills here.

Absolutely outstanding pics. Thanks for sharing. I'm a horse owner myself (well my wife is :)) and she keeps bugging me to put them to use. I just use my tractor. I like that ride on hauler you built and the pull rigging for the horses is great. I'd like to try a ground driven rig just so I know I can get it done with the horse.

More Please !!

I would love it if you posted more detailed photos and some measurements of the arch so I can build one just like for my mules.

Thanks, Dog_River

By the way, I think they have a ton of information on this over at the Draft Animal Power forum, and probably others as well.

Make the arch as wide that whatever you pull it with. Then you know it will not hang up.

Think chain with a ring on one end for a choker. Quicker than setting grabs.

Yup, hard to push chain under some logs . Put a needle on the end.
