Ok- this is an odd question, but I am wondering if the prize money available to hotsaw competitors these days is substantial? I've been out of touch with the hotsaws for some time, but I can't remember it being very good. These recent "arguments" over who is better or faster have posed the question in my mind if the root of these competitions is based on the love of money, the love of winning, or the love of feeding one's gargantuan ego.

With those kind of purses it would have to be for love or ego. I couldn't see how you could break even winning first place. Maybe if you could only use saws from yard sales or Wal-mart.

Around here, Prize money varies from as low as $25 to as high as $600+. A very few pay more. With decent saws costing thousands, nobody is in it for the money. After you buy the saw, you have to travel to the contests, which usually aren't very close. With all of the investment in money and time required, there are lots of more profitable ventures. Some of the top competitors may make money on all of their events, but I doubt anybody make anything on hotsaw winnings alone.

I think most of us are involved for fun, challange and to meet people.

You are right about a decent saw costing thousands. I call today about a full circle racing crank. Cost more than a saw.
