I would like to get some opinoins on muffler mods for my saws.I have a husky 55rancher and a 350.I hear alot of talk about simple muffler mods to make a little more power. Both of these saws are great in stock form, but if I could gain some by drillin a couple holes then I'll do it.

You don't want to open it up too much because some backpressure is a good thing. Measure the area of the exhaust opening at the cylinder. Take 85% of this value and that's how big you want the opening in your muffler to be.

Once the muffler flows better, you'll need to back the mixture screws out on the carb because more air will flow through the carb, so you'll need more fuel. The fuel makes the power.

I know that the 55 responds wery well to muffler mod's, but it is very important with mix after as rmihalek stated.

It would be interesting to have a before/after tach reading. I think we can make the automatic assumption that the saw is already rich, so if a 32:1 mix is used then everything should be good, but I wouldn't try to exceed factory revs, especially if the saw is new.
