Hmm that’s a good one I’d say people just forget about them in my case I have too many of the poulan ones sitting around here.
I accidentally left the one for my John Deere 30 sitting on the piece of plywood that it was sitting on when I bought it wish i didn’t do that bc it’s smaller the. Normal.

One possibility is that they wear out. I have two or three that are stripped out on the inside and won't tighten much of anything anymore. I also have two or three for #27 Torx screws that no longer work. Of course, I repair lots of saws. Regardless, Bob, I still like your question.

These tools tend to get lost also, usually in the field. I lost a small Stihl screwdriver in the field and it took a month for me to recover from that ignorant act.

Probably the most likely outcome.
If you use saws out in the forest- odds are you have lost one or many combi tools, so you sell old well used saws and keep the combi tools for spares to replace lost ones.
Either that, or the folk selling the saws are not saw people and flick the saw on bay of E or lists of Craig to realise some quick cash.

The 281/181 I picked up a couple of weeks back came with one- the previous owner was a 50 year forestry veteran and I guess it was natural for him that anywhere a saw goes the tool goes with.
The latest 2094 to arrive had one as well, taped to the top of the wrap bar for safe travelling from one end of our wee country to the other.
But I must admit- those two have been the exception, rather than the rule.

There must be hoards out there sitting lonely in boxes, or shelves, lamenting the loss of their work partners.

Whenever I sell a saw, I try to remember to include the scrench tool, and that was at one time very important with older and smaller Echo saws that require a smaller bar nut wrench (10 mm). No buyer ever seemed to have one. Then there were the older large Poulan saws (such as the 4000) that needed a 14 mm bar nut wrench. A few others did as well.

They probably go where lone single socks go.

We had some tree work done a few years back. A couple weeks after, I remember finding 3 of those combination tools laying in random spots in the yard, one of them was pretty well worn out..

a lawn mower dealer near me had a big jar full of those little screwdrivers on the counter, I thought they were free, no way, he wanted 6.50 each!

Stihl 051 takes a ?15 16? MM and the plug is lower rear and some screnches just aggravate you.

I am not 100% sure all models in all places are the same- but the only 051's I have messed with over here have used standard wrench bar nuts- nothing to say they were not swapped out for this very convenience though!
The MS201 used a smaller spark plug and their screnches are for a 16mm (CMR 6H) sparkplug- not a 19.
