I just bought a Husky 357XP from Amicks, and I'm not sure if it has a cat muffler or not. It says in the manual for the saw that if it has a "green gas cap" then it has a Cat muffler and needs goot quality fuel to help it stay cool. Well, I looked at the gas cap, and the gas cap itself it gray, but when you remove the gas cap it has a green ring around it kinda where the threads are. So I proceded to look at the Oil cap, and that too has the gray cap and the green ring around the area where the threads are. So does that mean its a green gas cap, or do they all have green rings near the threads?

Also I remember reading on here that If it has a manual compression release, then its a NON cat muffler. I looked at my saw and it definately has the manual compression release button to push on the side of the engine.

I also looked at the owners manual cover and it shows that the owners manual is for a 357XP EPA I, and also a 359 EPA II, so does the EPA II only have a cat, or whats the deal?

Sooooooooooooo, does anyone actually know what ones have cats and what ones don't?

Thanks in advance, I hate to think that I have a fricken cat. :blob2:

E-Techs definitely have a green gas cap, will have CAT stamped lightly along with the part# on the muffler body, and say E-Tech underneath the model # on the starter cover.

You should use fresh premium gas in any saw. Don't forget the 2 cycle oil mix.

357XP E-Techs are listed on Husqvarna's International web site.

SWEET. I'm so glad I don't have that stupid cat.

I always use 93 Octane mixed with Amsoil Series 2000 Full Synthetic race oil. I go for 50/1 usually, but I went with about 30-35/1 to break this baby in nice and easy. Now I just need to find a day without being swamped at work, so I can skip out and work the saw lightely for a few Hrs. :blob2: :rockn:

I heat cycled it once tonight, so that should help it.

I just got the 357xp from Amick's too, and confirm it is non-cat. This photo seemed appropriate for you, Deadman.

My 357XP had a sticker on the bottom that said "04", so maybe thats when it was actually built. I'm just pumped that its a non-cat muffler.

I'm actually a funeral Director, so that is a nice pic above!

The second line on the ID tag gives you the year (first 2 digits) and the week of manufacture (3rd & 4th digit).

If you get into chainsaw milling you can also call yourself "Slab Man." :D

That system has varied a bit - my new 372xpg has the full year (2006) in front of the serial number itself....
