If I hire a tradesman, Electrician, plumber,or carpenter and he leaves my house a mess, he's not comming back. The detail of your cleanup is your calling card. Do I feel im worth more than a cleanup guy with little knowledge of trees, yes. Can my business handle a lost client because of a bad cleanup, maybe not. Thats why I like winter work. You don't have to rake snow.

Leave it better looking than when you arrived.

Period.

Exactly.

Even if it means you have to rake up the leaves from the whole yard, just to get the twigs up, ya gotta do it.

Many people might not notice the extra effort, but thats not the point. The point is to put your name to your work. So basically it depends on how you value your name and reputation that it carries.

I usually send someone back out to rake up after the snow's melted if need be. I keep a list and check 'em all.

A good climber once told me, "It doesn't matter how good or bad of a job you do on the tree, the first thing the client is going to see is the job you did cleaning up."

Once again I just skimmed the 26 posts ahead of me. I voted very important for 2 reasons.

  1. cleanup is the first point of negotiations when the potential clinet wants to come down in the bid price. "I do less, you pay less"
  2. the old saw "they may not know what (choose your trade) work looks like, but they know what a good cleanup looks like!"

If pruning is an art, the cleanup is your signature.

Place was left immaculate and I got all the other jobs on the street from the neighbors. I also got the pleasure of naming my own price because how how well we executed the removal. It takes 10 minutes to rake / blow a lawn and it goes such a long way...

Those types of operations are best for Saturdays, they are such good advertising tools that you want the audiance there.

A thorough cleanup is very important. A final walk through is also a good idea. Sometimes when I do my final inspection I have to pick up a small stick or two. The customer or the neighbor's notice stuff like that. It's also a good time to look for tools left on site.

satisfying the customer is where its @! in terms of customer satisfaction, the finishing touches/cleanup you put on a job can can be as important as the rest of the work you agreed to do in the 1ts place- especially if you are working at a highprofile site or in a neighborhood where everbody keeps their place all dialed-in year round. alot of the time the customer will notcie the things you should have done as much as the things you actually did...

its not nesecary, if there not expecting it your wasting your time.but i always got plenty of rakes

Most poeple dont care how hard the tree was or how skilled you are as long as there yard is clean when you leave that from my travels is what they look at first then the tree. makes for more repeat customers also.

Yes it does look more prof. and is safer to it pays to look prof. there are to many poeple in wy area the give this bizz a bad rap no hard hats, skills, ins,on and on hacks i guess is what you call them.piss me off to no end.

That's what we do. I am VERY anal about job site clean up. I have the same motto as some people on here have: "Leave it cleaner than when you arrived".

I also always try to get brances/twigs out of the neighbour's yard as quickly as possible, just in case the neighbour's don't get along.

After everything is done I do a one last inspection to look for extra twigs, tools and chainsaw screw drivers. :)

this really makes good sense

i love the advertising angle, do an incredible clean job on one house now the neighbors have taken all your business cards.
i know in the automtive repair business , one ah sh!t will wipe out about a thousand "ata boys". and id say your business is no different. the neighbor asks who did your tree work, they reply, such snd such co. , as they walk away they remember your name because they sure as hell dont want you to make a mess of their place as well. and dont be fooled they will tell everyone you just didnt do it right. word of mouth is a double edged sword, or saw as the case may be.........
