Just wondering how the milling thunder from down under is faring? Hope Bob is healing up well.

Cheers Jdad. The hand itself is going OK - its been 4 weeks now but the two fingers that got crushed the most are still in splints for another 2 weeks. These still hurt if I twist or knock them. Doc says I'm not supposed to left more than 2 lbs with that hand but I can't function if I do that. At work I had to strip down a small section of 2" SS vacuum line and replace a vacuum gauge head which required the use of opposing spanners and sockets, that sure made my hand ache for a while. Yesterday I even used my 441 to cut up 6 badly weathered hardwood posts that I was putting out on the front verge for the city biannual large garbage collection .

This is going to make me sound like a real idiot but it was one of those lapses which demonstrate what can happen when you least expect it. Yesterday I decided to have a go at pruning a vine that's smothering my shop called a bougainvillea. This thing has hard whippy woody runners that arch up to 6 ft high up above the shed and are covered in up to 1" long curved sharp thorns. To prune this I wear tough overalls long sleeves and forearm length welding gloves. Because I wear glasses I don't worry about face protection although a face mask is advisable. Anyway, to cut a long story short I took my glasses off for 30 seconds and got whipped in the right eye by an 1/8" thorn from a small runner. The thorn tore two small 1/16" long flaps in the white of my eye. So, off to the docs again. The flaps are not worth stitching but I was very lucky, I can see fine but it's still like having a small grain of sand under my eye.

yeesh.... sounds uncomfortable. hope that eye heals quickly.

i know how it is though, sitting still is the worst, and it only gets harder the more time you have to think about everything you want to/have to get done.

a friend of mine was in an accident, hit by a car on his bicycle. long story short, he was pretty badly injured physically and took a good blow to the head and was dealing with a shaky memory and lack of concentration. single guy, no family nearby. the doctors told him he needs to take 6-8 months off from work to "rest", do nothing and heal. of course that is not an option for a working man, there are simply bills that need paying. still, even if money were not an issue, who could sit idle for so long? i'd go nuts!

anyway bobl, hope your past all this soon. feel better.

Wow, good to hear about the hand. Bad about the eye. I hardly ever wore saftey glasses and am now wearing them more and more after a similar"stupid"incident.

Get well soon and get your butt back to milling!!!
I dont know why but seems like we all have a year that just stands out and really suck...Nothing goes right,,your layed up and just goin nuts wanting to just go out and do something,,but know you cant push it or it can get worst...
I'm glad it wasnt worst for your eye...Thats some scary stuff ......
Take care my friend,,and a speedy recovery to you!!!...

Cheers guys.
Eye is slowly getting better, not so much of the grain of sand effect and was able to sleep last night with the aid of an old Italian natural healing remedy (ie couple of shots of grappa )

Glad you didn't do permanent damage to the peepers, I know a guy who is blind in his left eye because he got a fish hook stuck in it a few years back salmon fishing. Yeoooooooow!
