How many hours a day do all you timber cutters cut? Is there an OSHA standard? What is the average that loggers expect? Is 8 hours doable for you guys? That seems like a long time on the saw,no?

6 hours is usual. I have worked up to 10 hours and more at a time working my tree service during ice storms and other natural disasters. It's not fun but the money is really good.

Standard day here is nine hours. 8 hours of that cutting. often maybe a third of that time is stacking of cord wood and fencing blanks and chucking top or brash around a little bit. Not that any of that is much less tiring than cutting down or cutting up. But sometimes you won't put the chainsaw down all day (except for the obvious fuelling sharpening and breaks). Myself I fell and extract all my own wood, so it might be three or four days cutting for one day forwarding, but there are guys who cut full time maybe 6 days a week. We tend to work close to home round here, which makes a huge difference to the length of day obviously. Longest commute I've had is 1 hours 15 minutes. Normally around half an hour
