How many cords of firewood logs fit on an average straight truck & pup trailer?

Logs are straight and mostly less than 12" in diameter. Some larger schwill in there too.

Approx. 10 cords of similar stuff fit on a loader trailer.

I know I would have to ask a good question to get a good answer.... So please go easy on me I am just trying to get a ball park idea here.

Thanks!!

The trucks around here run a 24' lead and 23' pup on average. They can usually pack on 22-23 cords. Stack height x log length x truck length divided by 128 is the formula to scale it. The stack height you would nomally take 5 measurements on the lead and 5 on the pup and average them.

OK I know he can't fit longer than 18' so his rig must be shorter than you are talking about. Oh and this is a self loader.

I will just scale the piles. If I just get decent dimensions for the pile and divide by 128 I ought to get close right?

Yep, that should get you pretty darn close.

The average is 12 cords, but some guys can pack nearly 14 on. It all depends on straightness and size of wood and how good the trucker is. Divide by 128 and then subtract a cord or two. Its nearly always less than it looks. Remember its all eye-balling unless it is run over a scale, but as far as firewood goes its up to the driver. Once its split and stacked it will be less. A minimum of 10 cords is mandatory to even get a trucker to show up. My guess is you live less than an hour from me and I know the type of trucks running around here. You buying or selling? PM if you've got any questions about whats going on around here, logging, firewooding, or otherwise.

Hey thanks. Just wanting to get better at knowing how much wood I'm putting out.
